Health Plan

Choice of Kaiser or Health Net- HMO plans are currently paid by Menlo for eligible employees working 32 hours or more. Employees opting for the PPO plan will be required to contribute toward the cost of the employee coverage. Domestic partner coverage (as defined by California law) is available. Dependent coverage is available and paid by employee.

Dental Plan

Menlo pays Delta dental (PPO) for eligible employees working a minimum of 32 hours. Dependent coverage is available and paid by employee.

Vision Plan

Both the Kaiser and Health Net medical plans have vision coverage for examinations, prescription lens and frames. This coverage is included in the medical benefit.

Pension Plan

Full-time employees are eligible for participation in Menlo's TIAA/CREF retirement plan following the completion of one year of service at Menlo. The present contribution level is 9% by the college. All contributions are immediately vested.

Tax-Deferred Annuity Plan

Optional for employees. Allows employee, through a salary reduction agreement, to have a portion of their compensation contributed toward the purchase of supplemental annuity benefits on a before-tax basis. Such amounts and any earning credited to them are not subject to income tax until they are received as benefits.

Social Security

Paid for by Menlo and employee. Provides retirement, disability, survivor and medical benefits. Coverage is automatic.

Basic Life Insurance

Coverage shall be equal to two times employee's basic annual earnings, and is provided by Menlo for all eligible employees working a minimum of 32 hours each week.

Short-Term Disability Insurance

Premium for California's SDI program is paid by the employee through payroll deduction. Additionally, the College will make up the difference between state disability payments and your regular pay for any period you are on California state disability, before you may become eligible for Long-Term Disability.

Long-Term Disability

Coverage for all eligible employees working 32 hours or more. Insurance provides income replacement of 2/3 of salary following 90 days disability. You will be covered through Short Term Disability during the eligibility period for Long Term Disability (see above).

Accidental Death & Dismemberment

Coverage paid by Menlo for all eligible employees working at least 32 hours.

Paycheck Bank Deposit

Your paychecks may be deposited directly to your bank. Menlo will pay the automatic deposit fee.

Credit Union

Employees may borrow and repay or save money through the San Mateo County Employees Credit Union by payroll deduction.

Lunch on Campus

Faculty and staff are encouraged to meet with each other each day in the cafeteria and receive a complimentary lunch each day of the academic year. Additionally, employees may purchase food and drinks at other meal times at cafeteria prices.

Use of Facilities

The library, athletic facilities and campus events are open to employees.

Tuition Benefit

Children or spouses of full-time employees with at least one year of service, may apply for reduction or waiver of tuition. Admission is subject to qualifications of the applicant and availability of space. Tuition remission is available as a benefit immediately upon hire for the PSP (Professional Studies Program) providing the employee meets normal PSP admissions.

Professional Development/Tuition Assistance

Full time staff become eligible for educational development through other institutions for degree programs and/or seminars and workshops related to their job function. Employees must obtain prior approval for this benefit.

Holidays

2010-2011 Holiday Schedule

Regular staff receive 10 paid holidays: Labor Day, Thanksgiving and day after, Christmas, New Year's day, Martin Luther King's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day and two additional days determined each year. Additionally, full time staff earn two floating holidays each year to be scheduled and taken during the calendar year.

Vacation

Non-Exempt 12-Month Employees

  • 1 1/4 days (10 hrs.) per month for the first 5 years
  • 1 2/3 days (13.33 hrs.) per month after 5 years

Exempt 12-Month Employees

  • 1 2/3 days (13.33 hrs.) per month

Employees may "bank" up to 200 hours (5 weeks) of accrued vacation. Once an employee has accumulated 200 hours of vacation, no further vacation will be accrued until the unused vacation balance is below 200 hours.

Sick Leave

Regular employees earn one day per month of paid sick leave. Unused sick leave can accumulate up to 480 hours (3 months). However, there is no compensation for unused sick leave upon termination.
