Menlo Athletics has tapped Mike Givens as head coach of the Lady Oaks softball team. Givens was previously the head baseball coach and assistant softball coach at Sandpoint High School, a position he had held since 2005. Over the course of twenty years of coaching, he has been named “Coach of the Year” five times; twice at Sandpoint, where he took the team to its only state championship, twice at Skyline College in San Bruno, and once at Half Moon Bay High School.

“Mike has been extremely successful everywhere he has been and brings a great deal of experience and success to the softball program,” said Keith Spataro, Menlo Athletics Director.

Givens is familiar with Menlo from past coaching stints in the area. “When I previously coached in the Bay Area, I had always envied coaches at Menlo College. Menlo provides a small college atmosphere, where I have a chance to work with student-athletes, and have an opportunity to have a positive impact on their lives,” he said.

In addition to Givens, there are two other new coaches at Menlo this fall. Head coach Kezia Molinsky is launching Menlo's new competitive cheer team, and Jason Benadretti is the basketball team's new assistant coach.
