New Online Database: PrivCo Web Master | August 24, 2012 August 13, 2012 Menlo College has acquired a new online database, Privco. This resource provides business and financial information on over 50,000 major private companies, including family owned, private equity owned, venture backed, and international unlisted companies. It includes information on finances, mergers and acquisitions, funding activity, ownership structure, and more, as well as data on more than 10,000 investors. “PrivCo broadens the range of companies that students can investigate,” explained Dr. William Walters, Dean of Library Services. “It’s part of our ongoing effort to support new majors in accounting and finance and to support the use of real-world data in students’ projects.” The company gets its information from 15,000 sources. The database is growing rapidly, and aims to cover all private companies with annual revenue of over $10 million, smaller companies in high-growth industries, and all companies that are funded by major venture capital firms. PrivCo also will gather information on any private company that is not in the database, upon request from the Menlo College librarians. PrivCo is available to all Menlo College students, faculty, and staff. It can be accessed from the Library’s Article & Research Databases page.
