Professional Tutor – Intensive Math Lab (Part Time)

Compensation: Commensurate with qualification and experience

Position Summary

Menlo College is seeking individuals with a passion for mentoring and motivating students to support its Intensive Math Lab program.

Candidates selected for the position of Intensive Math Lab Tutor will work with students enrolled in Menlo’s required math course, Math 110 (Finite Math) and Math 111 (Algebra Support for Finite Math) to improve their understanding of course content, support them as they complete class assignments, and guide them through additional practice as needed. Tutors also provide mentorship and guidance, introducing students to the academic resources available to support their educational development, in order to establish long-term habits of engagement that will pave the way for students to thrive in their later academic careers.

Intensive Math Lab sessions are currently being held primarily in person, on location at our Atherton campus; some remote hours are possible.

Intensive Math Lab Tutors report directly to the Executive Director for Academic Success

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Conduct regularly scheduled tutoring sessions
  • Work with students one-on-one or in groups to provide guidance on assignments for Math 110/111, or related content
  • Follow procedures for record keeping of content and attendance for each tutoring session and assist with other administrative tasks as needed
  • Actively engage students to ensure they are making progress during each tutoring session
  • Provide a welcoming and supportive environment for all students
  • Attend tutor training sessions and abide by best practices outlined in training, as well as in all written materials provided by supervisors

Qualifications:

  • Content expertise in Finite Math
  • Previous teaching, tutoring, or mentoring experience
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Attention to detail and strong work ethic
  • Master’s degree in Math or related field preferred
