Biography

Bruce Paton is Professor Emeritus of Management and Innovation. He teaches courses on sustainable business, social innovation, and business approaches to poverty alleviation. His research focuses on business strategies and public policies for sustainability. Both his teaching and research draw on extensive decision-making experience in industry, government and higher education. Previously, Bruce served as Dean of Business and Academic Affairs at Menlo College. Before coming to Menlo, he served as Interim Dean at the School of Business and Public Policy at Mills College, as Director of the MBA Program at San Francisco State University, and as Chair of the International MBA program at Monterey Institute of International Studies. He began his academic career at San Francisco State University, where he helped create an MBA concentration in Sustainable Business. Bruce currently serves as Board President for Leadership Sunnyvale, and serves on the Sustainability Commission for the City of Sunnyvale, CA. In recent years, he has served on boards of directors for several public benefit corporations and the editorial boards for two leading management journals. Bruce earned a BA in Environmental Science from Wesleyan University, an MBA from Stanford University, and a Ph.D. from the University of California, Santa Cruz.
