Salary: $68,640 – $76,000, DOE
Location: Atherton, CA – in-person position with travel involved

Position Overview:

As a vital member of our admissions team, the Admissions Counselor / Senior Admissions Counselor plays a pivotal role in attracting students to Menlo College, where our mission is to “ignite potential and educate students to make meaningful contributions in the innovation economy.” This position involves developing and implementing effective and personalized recruitment strategies, overseeing communications for a specific geographic territory, evaluating applications, and building strong relationships with high schools. The Admissions Counselor / Senior Admissions Counselor guides prospective students through the application process, champions Menlo College’s values, and ensures a positive experience for prospective students and their families. This role directly contributes to the College’s enrollment goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Represent the College at various events, including college fairs, high school presentations, on-campus events, and other programming.
  • Select, schedule, and coordinate visits to high schools and college fairs in assigned geographic areas to achieve recruitment goals for Menlo College.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of target high schools and college fairs in assigned geographic areas and develop strategies for effective territory management.
  • Cultivate effective relationships with high school personnel, alumni, and influencers who impact prospective students’ college decisions.
  • Build and maintain relationships with Menlo staff and faculty who can support recruiting efforts. Facilitate connections between prospective students and their families and appropriate stakeholders within Menlo for a personalized experience.
  • Provide guidance to prospective students and their families on the admissions process, financial aid, academic programs, and student life at Menlo College.
  • Collect and review application materials for admissions decisions to be made, adhering to Menlo’s admissions policies and best practices.
  • Develop and execute targeted strategies to enhance conversion rates of prospective students within the admissions funnel for assigned geographic regions.
  • Ensure accurate recording and updating of information in the admissions database (Salesforce) by maintaining up-to-date records of prospective student interactions, application statuses, and other relevant data.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director of Marketing and Communications to manage strategic communications with high school and independent counselors through various channels.
  • Efficiently handle a high volume of communication across diverse channels, including phone & video calls, text messages, emails, and hand-written notes, while maintaining a professional and organized approach in a fast-paced environment.
  • Meet weekly outreach targets to prospective students.
  • Assist in developing and delivering on and off-campus events and programs for prospective students, families, and counselors.
  • Contribute to the smooth functioning of the admissions office by providing tours and supporting the operations team as needed.
  • Contribute to the yearly planning and evaluation of recruitment and admission programs.
  • Respond promptly to new inquiries and follow up on communications in a timely manner with all constituents, including prospective students, families, and other stakeholders. Be proactive in addressing questions and concerns that may arise throughout the admissions process, and guide students and their families through each step of the process with care, attention to detail, and a friendly and professional demeanor.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and stay updated on Menlo’s academic programs, extracurricular opportunities, and student support services to accurately represent the college.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field. Master’s degree desirable for Senior Admissions Counselor role.
  • 1-2 years of college admissions or sales experience for the Admissions Counselor role. 3-7 years of experience for Senior Admissions Counselor role, with demonstrated leadership skills and success in achieving or exceeding enrollment goals.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong cross-cultural, interpersonal, and writing skills.
  • Exceptional customer service skills with the ability to communicate effectively across diverse populations.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, Google Workspace, and presentation platforms. Knowledge of Salesforce is a plus.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with accuracy.
  • Familiarity with federal and state financial aid programs.
  • Collaborative team player with a strong commitment to achieving admissions team goals, while also capable of working independently to meet performance targets.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of discretion and confidentiality.
  • Familiarity with FERPA regulations.
  • Ability to lift packages of 35-40 lbs.
  • Spanish language proficiency is a plus.

Availability and Travel:

  • Typical office hours are 9 AM – 6 PM, Monday to Friday, with periodic weekends and evenings dedicated to various tasks, including but not limited to: admissions events, outreach events, and call campaigns.
  • The role involves extensive travel, including visits to schools and college fairs.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
