Director, Master of Arts in Sport and Performance Psychology Program Visiting Professor

Position Overview:

Menlo College seeks an outstanding leader to be its next director of the Master of Arts in Sport and Performance Psychology (MASPP) program. The successful candidate will also be expected to serve as a visiting professor in Psychology and teach courses in and contribute to the development of the program. The successful candidate must have completed and earned a doctorate (PhD, EdD, or PsyD) with a specialization in Sport and Performance Psychology or an equivalent discipline prior to August 15, 2025.

Initially, the associated academic appointment will be a one-year visiting professorship. We anticipate conducting a faculty search in 2025-2026 that could lead to the opportunity to be appointed to a faculty position of rank as of August 1, 2026.

The director will cultivate and maintain fieldwork placements, recruit adjunct faculty, develop marketing materials, recruit potential students, admit students, cultivate and maintain relationships with supervisors, maintain processes for tracking graduates, create and oversee the scheduling and sequencing of courses, and create and cultivate other programmatic processes as needed to grow the program.

• Possesses scholarly research accomplishments in sport and performance psychology
• Demonstrates experience teaching master’s program graduate students
• Demonstrates experience creating or managing a master’s in SPP program
• Exhibits an interest in and an aptitude for building relationships with organizations in Silicon Valley and the greater Bay Area
• Is excited about collaborating to develop and deliver innovative, practice- grounded learning experiences to graduate students
• Demonstrates engagement with diverse communities
• Is equipped with substantial relevant work experience and/or research directly related to the practice of their discipline

Key Responsibilities

• Teach four MASPP courses per academic year
• Manage the MASPP program
• Undertake and publish impactful scholarship in sport and performance psychology
• Supervise graduate students in their fieldwork placements
• Engage actively in shared governance as a faculty member and administrator, including service assignments to the campus
• Mentor and advise graduate and undergraduate students
• Contribute to curriculum assessment as needed
• Participate in a collaborative and supportive environment with colleagues with substantial experience and research expertise

Qualifications

The successful candidate must have an earned doctorate in Psychology or in a related field from a reputable university in hand prior to the start of the fall 2025 semester (mid-August 2025). Preference will be given to candidates with a strong record of effective teaching as the instructor of record. Candidates must possess strong interpersonal skills and be able to work in a collaborative and collegial environment.

Responsibilities

The position requires undergraduate and graduate teaching in Psychology, mentoring and advising undergraduate and graduate students, and active ongoing engagement in shared governance and other service assignments at the college level, including assessment of learning. The position reports directly to the Dean of Arts & Sciences but will coordinate with other Psychology faculty as appropriate to support the degree.
