Menlo faculty and staff are ready to assist our Veterans as they search for pathways to complete their education. Menlo’s Veteran’s Enrollment Team is available to help you regarding benefits eligibility, transferability of credits, enrollment certification, financial aid, and how to navigate the admissions process.

Financial Aid for Veterans

Menlo College proudly supports veterans and their families through a range of educational benefits, including the Yellow Ribbon Program under Chapter 33 of the Post-9/11 GI Bill®. Eligible students can receive financial support for tuition, housing, and more.

VA Education Programs Menlo College is Eligible for:

Chapter 30 – Montgomery GI Bill® Active Duty (MGIB)

If you paid $1200 to the program during your active duty, you may be eligible for:

• A monthly stipend
• Additional funding if you contributed to a “kicker” program (e.g., Army College Fund)
• Reduced benefits if enrolled less than full-time

To activate Chapter 30:

• Complete and submit an application online at www.ebenefits.va.gov or fill out VA Form 22-1990 and mail to the VA St. Louis Regional Office.
• Provide the VA with a copy of your DD-214 (Member 4 copy).
• Once admitted to Menlo College, send a copy of your VA Certificate of Eligibility to veteranaffairs@menlo.edu. You’ll also need to complete a “VA Education Benefit Certification Request Form.”
• Verify your attendance monthly through the Web Automated Verification of Enrollment (WAVE) system. (This is your responsibility and must be done online to receive benefits.)

Chapter 31 – Vocational Rehabilitation

Veterans with a service-connected disability rating of 20% or greater (or 10% with a serious employment handicap) may receive:

• Full tuition coverage
• Book stipend
• Monthly allotment based on dependents

To activate Chapter 31:

Work with your VA case manager or counselor to determine eligibility before enrolling at Menlo College.

Chapter 33 – Post-9/11 GI Bill®

If you have 90 days or more of service after September 11, 2001, or were discharged due to a service-connected disability, you may be eligible for:

• Financial support for education and housing
• Coverage for undergraduate, graduate, and vocational/technical training
• Additional support for tutorial assistance and licensing or certification exams (if determined necessary by the VA)
• Tuition payments based on Menlo College’s in-state tuition rate, with potential additional coverage through the Yellow Ribbon Program
• The ability to transfer benefits to dependents

To activate Chapter 33 – Post-9/11 GI Bill®:

• Apply online at www.ebenefits.va.gov or fill out VA Form 22-1990 and mail to the VA St. Louis Regional Office.
• Provide the VA with a copy of your DD-214 (Member 4 copy).
• Once admitted to Menlo College, send a copy of your VA Certificate of Eligibility to veteranaffairs@menlo.edu. You’ll also need to complete a “VA Education Benefit Certification Request Form.”

Chapter 35 – Survivors and Dependents Educational Assistance

If you are the spouse, son, or daughter of a veteran who is permanently and totally disabled due to a service-connected disability or died in service, you may be eligible for:

• A monthly stipend
• Reduced amounts if attending part-time

To check eligibility and activate Chapter 35:

• Fill out the application, VA Form 22-5490.
• Once admitted to Menlo College, send a copy of your VA Certificate of Eligibility to veteranaffairs@menlo.edu. You’ll also need to complete a “VA Education Benefit Certification Request Form.”

Chapter 1606 – Montgomery GI Bill® Selected Reserve (MGIB-SR)

If you committed to a 6-year enlistment in the Military Reserves or National Guard, you may qualify for:

• A monthly stipend
• Benefits similar to those in Chapter 30, with adjustments for part-time enrollment

To activate Chapter 1606:

• Complete and submit an application online at www.ebenefits.va.gov and fill out VA Form 22-1990.
• Provide the VA with a Notice of Basic Eligibility (NOBE) from your drilling unit.
• Once admitted to Menlo College, send a copy of your VA Certificate of Eligibility to veteranaffairs@menlo.edu. You’ll also need to complete a “VA Education Benefit Certification Request Form.”
• Verify your attendance monthly through the Web Automated Verification of Enrollment (WAVE) system.

Military Tuition Assistance Program

This program provides financial support for service members in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, and Space Force. It covers up to 100% of tuition costs for courses costing $250 or less per semester credit hour, with an annual cap of $4,500. Assistance is available for undergraduate, graduate, and technical programs at accredited institutions. For more details, consult your service branch’s education office or virtual education center to ensure you’re receiving the appropriate support for your educational goals.

Pursue AFROTC through Menlo College’s Partnership with San Jose State

Menlo College has a crosstown agreement with San Jose State University Detachment 045, which allows you to be enrolled as a full-time student at Menlo while taking your ROTC classes each week at San Jose State University.
