The Master’s degree program in Sport and Performance Psychology equips graduate students with sport psychology and mental performance strategies to enhance coaching practices and work effectively and ethically in sport and performance fields.
Developed with input from industry and academic experts, the MASPP curriculum prepares students for full-time careers helping athletes and performers maximize their potential. The program blends theory with hands-on experience, allowing students to apply sport and performance psychology in high-level teams and organizations.
With a focus on applied learning, students gain real-world experience in coaching, consulting, and performance psychology. They develop expertise in the field and apply their skills in teams, organizations, and performance settings, preparing for success in their careers.
Coursework will leave students eligible to sit for the Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC) exam, provided they have achieved all necessary applied hours.
– Official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended, with one transcript showing a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in the U.S., or equivalent academic preparation outside of the U.S., sent to graduateadmissions@menlo.edu
– GPA of 3.0 and above preferred, but 2.5-3.0 considered.
– An autobiographical statement, approximately 2-3 typed, double-spaced pages describing why candidates are interested in the field, the program, and Menlo College, as well as other pertinent or professional experience.
– Two letters of recommendation, preferably one from an academic source and one from a professional source.
– Recommended Prerequisites: 15 units of psychology with a B- grade or better, including General Psychology and Abnormal Psychology, and 3 units of Statistics with a B- grade or better.
*The Program Fee covers services that benefit students, but which are complementary to, not part of, instructional programs. The fee is part of the cost of attendance at Menlo College, and is mandatory for all registered students.
**The On-Campus Food and Housing cost for 2024-25 is based on a Double Occupancy Room for 12 months.

Additionally, a health insurance fee may apply to full-time students who are international students. Please check your itemized tuition bill for the health insurance fee. Note that meal plans are required for each residential student. Meal plan charges are included in the on-campus food and housing costs shown above. Graduate Housing will be offered in Howard Hall.
Menlo College offers opportunities for students to obtain Graduate Assistantships (GA) as sport coaches. If chosen for this role, you will work as an assistant coach while studying full time. Benefits of this position include: 50% tuition remission, on-campus housing, and a daily meal. In addition, there are limited opportunities to obtain a GA as a strength coach, should you meet the requirements of the position. To find out more about availability of these positions, please reach out to the head coach of your chosen sport.
Students admitted to Menlo College’s MASPP program who’ve completed their FAFSA application will be offered Unsubsidized Federal Stafford Loans. Graduate students may borrow up to a maximum of $20,500 per academic year through the Federal Direct Loan program. The actual amount a student is eligible to borrow cannot exceed the program cost of attendance, minus any other assistance received.
Students who have been admitted to Menlo College and completed their FAFSA application will also be offered a Federal Direct Graduate PLUS LOAN offer as part of their financial aid package. The Graduate PLUS loan is based on creditworthiness, which is determined by the federal government.

More than 90% of Major League Baseball teams employ mental skills coaches, while the armed forces utilize performance enhancement specialists to support military personnel and their families.
Careers in this field offer competitive salaries, with Master Resilience Trainers earning $60K–$70K and Cognitive Performance Specialists making $75K–$100K. Sport Psychologists at universities earn between $60K–$80K, with top salaries exceeding $100K. Business executives also work with mental coaches to optimize performance, and consulting firms like McKinsey and Deloitte hire specialists in this field with starting salaries of $100K.
