Position Overview:

The Menlo College Athletics Department seeks applications for the position of Assistant Athletic Trainer. This is a full-time, 11-month, exempt position, and reports jointly to the Head Athletic Trainer and Assistant Director of Athletics for Student-Athlete Health, Wellness and Performance.  The description of responsibilities below is intended to be a descriptive but not necessarily all-inclusive list of responsibilities.

The Assistant Athletic Trainer is a member of the Department of Athletics and is responsible for assisting Menlo College’s intercollegiate athletics program and establishing policies and procedures that achieve the parallel goals of development of quality, competitive athletics teams and support the individual education goals of student-athletes. The Assistant Athletic Trainer serves as the administrator for all sports programs and assists the Head Athletic Trainer and Assistant Director of Athletics for Student-Athlete Health, Wellness and Performance in all phases of sports medicine for Menlo College intercollegiate athletic programs and student-athletes.

The position will abide by all the NCAA Division II, PacWest Conference, and Menlo College Athletics Department rules and regulations.  Failure to follow NCAA, conference or Menlo College rules will result in my immediate dismissal from all duties.

Key Responsibilities:

The following is intended to be a descriptive but not necessarily all-inclusive list of responsibilities.

  • Work with the Head Athletic Trainer and Assistant Director of Athletics for Student-Athlete Health, Wellness and Performance to develop a comprehensive and proactive approach to student-athlete health and wellness.
  • Assist in pre-participation physicals for student-athletes.
  • Assist in completing daily preventive taping and treatments as necessary for all student-athletes.
  • Assist in completing daily post-op treatments and rehab as necessary for all student-athletes.
  • Assist in coordinating rehabilitation of injured student-athletes with Head Athletic Trainer and Assistant Director of Athletics for Student-Athlete Health, Wellness and Performance and team physician.
  • Work alongside the Head Athletic Trainer and Assistant Director of Athletics for Student-Athlete Health, Wellness and Performance to coordinate and discuss all athletics related injuries and how to implement a plan for both student-athlete and support staff.
  • Assist Head Athletic Trainer and Assistant Director of Athletics for Student-Athlete Health, Wellness and Performance with administrative duties, including injury and insurance tracking.
  • Assist in maintaining current injury and treatment records.
  • Assist in coordination with head coaches, Head Athletic Trainer and Assistant Director of Athletics for Student-Athlete Health, Wellness and Performance on standard of care and coverage for athletic teams to include travel.
  • Assist in establishing and following emergency procedures for care of student-athletes.
  • Work alongside other athletic trainers and assist Head Athletic Trainer and Assistant Director of Athletics for Student-Athlete Health, Wellness and Performance with all drug testing procedures within the department.
  • Work alongside the Head Athletic Trainer and Assistant Director of Athletics for Student-Athlete Health, Wellness and Performance to conduct regular counts of inventory levels and assist with inventory and ordering of all necessary medical supplies for the Athletic Training Room.
  • Work alongside the Head Athletic Trainer and Assistant Director of Athletics for Student-Athlete Health, Wellness and Performance to help educate the younger Athletic Training staff.

Accountability

Accountable for assisting in the overall management of the Athletic Training program, including administrative duties and the care and prevention of injuries. Accountable for assisting in the overall collaboration of the Athletics Department, including administrative duties, specifically the mission, vision, goals and objectives. The Associate Head Athletic Trainer must abide by all applicable NCAA, athletic conference (PacWest), and Menlo College Athletics Department rules and regulations.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred in related field.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills as well as written and oral communication skills.
  • First aid, CPR and AED certification.
  • Current NATA certification.
  • Available and able to travel with teams, which may include being a designated driver.
  • At least five years of experience in athletic training is preferred, preferably at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) level.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations governing recruitment, student-athlete eligibility, and related functions.
  • Demonstrated experience overseeing the day-to-day administrative and operational functions of an athletics department.
  • A dedication to the success of student-athletes in their academic and athletic endeavors, and a commitment to integrity, general equity, and diversity.
  • Demonstrated experience to supervise, direct, and manage others effectively.
  • Ability to work with other professionals across campus.
  • Ability to work non-traditional schedules, including nights and weekends.
