Facilities Technician

Compensation:$22-$26 an hour

Responsibility Summary

Performs a wide variety of building and facilities maintenance tasks to keep the college buildings serviceable and functional. Utilizes a broad range of trades skills to analyze and solve building and system preventive maintenance and repair. Makes recommendations to supervisor when tasks may require a higher level or amount of skill or experience. This position will report directly to the Facilities Manager of Menlo College.

Specific Responsibilities

Note: This is intended to be a descriptive but not necessarily all inclusive list of specific responsibilities.

  • Perform normal and emergency electrical repairs, including changing of light bulbs, ballast and complete light fixtures. Trouble shoot electrical problems to determine if repairs can be completed internally or require an outside vendor.
  • Inspects and performs normal and emergency repairs to boiler equipment. Performs daily inspections of steam boilers, weekly inspections of hot water boilers, and work with outside contractors in the maintenance and chemical balance of the boilers.
  • Performs normal and emergency plumbing repairs, including fixture repair or replacement, leak investigation and repair and drain service. Trouble shoot plumbing problems to determine if repairs can be completed internally or require an outside vendor.
  • Performs normal and emergency reapirs to mechanical and ventalation equipment including filters, belts, motors, valves, pumps and thermostats. Trouble shoot mechanical problems to determine if repairs can be completed internally or require an outside vendor.
  • Perform normal and emergency repairs to other building components such as doors, locksets and windows.
  • Apply finishes to various surfaces including wood, metal, glass, and stucco
  • Performs event set-up and teardown, on site moving of furniture equipment, files, boxes and other related items.
  • Does basic carpentry work including rough framing and simple construction
  • Follows safety procedures and precautions appropriate to the area of work
  • May be required to work from plans and specifications
  • Responsible for the good working order and the safe keeping of the tools, vehicles, equipment, and all property of Menlo College, that he/she uses to accomplish their assigned work.
  • This position is a normal Monday-Friday Schedule but does require working some weekends and being available to respond to emergency after hours calls when needed.

Qualifications

  • High school education and a minimum of 5 years experience in maintenance functions.
  • Should be very familiar with all types of hand and power tool operations. Must have and maintain a valid California Vehicle Operator's license.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds and operate transportation and vehicle equipment.
