INSY/FINT 511A: Field Consulting (Curricular Practical Training)

Students will work with a local business as a paid intern or temporary employee. The job must be directly related to studies within the Information Systems graduate program. To be eligible for curricular practical training (CPT), a student must have F-1 status, a minimum of 4 months (one semester) of full-time study completed in the USA at Menlo College, and must have a GPA of at least 3.0. Employment must be coordinated through the International Student Office at Menlo College, the employer, and the Dean of the School of Business. As soon as an offer of employment is accepted, at least one week before employment begins, a student must make an appointment to see their international student advisor to obtain the work authorization. The student must bring their I-20 and the offer of employment to the appointment.

INSY/FINT 511B: Immersion for Information System: Global

Unit(s): 3 
This course includes ten days visit to another country centered on onsite engagement with approximately 15 – 20 companies that are using information systems to achieve a business advantage. This course is designed to enhance and extend the content in the MSIS program. We will use a combination of case studies and hands-on projects to give you experience in identifying opportunities for leveraging information systems to support, make, and implement decisions. We will also provide an overview of the key engineering tools used for working with information systems by introducing some of the core projects used for both batch and real-time data processing.

INSY/FINT 511C: Immersion for Information System: Silicon Valley

Unit(s): 3 
Tap into the energy and excitement that permeates Silicon Valley. The course will allow students to meet mentors, successful entrepreneurs, potential investors, and Menlo College Alumni. Students will visit companies such as Apple, Facebook, Google, Hitachi Vantara, Salesforce, and others to learn how they use information systems in various ways and forms.
