Biography

Goolrukh Vakil is currently an Assistant Professor of Psychology at Menlo College where she taught as an Adjunct Professor of Psychology for six years. Goolrukh regularly teaches the clinical track for psychology majors covering Biopsychology, Psychological Disorders, and Communication and Counseling, and this semester, Cultural Issues in Psychology. Goolrukh has also taught psychology as an adjunct professor to graduate students for eight years past in various colleges in N. California. Among the large variety of classes taught, included were Qualitative Methodology, Counseling, Culture and Psychology, Child Abuse and Domestic Violence, Psychological Assessment, Law and Ethics, Theories of Personality, Chemical Dependency and Dual Diagnosis, Addiction. Goolrukh is also proud to have taught Introduction to Psychology to inmates of San Quentin Prison.

Goolrukh Vakil has submitted a research paper on mass shootings conducted at Menlo College. Her past research has been in Immunology. Her future professional interests include continued research and curriculum work at Menlo College and her continued passion in teaching, research, and counseling, with a strong belief that each informs the other and augments her love of students.

Goolrukh Vakil graduated from Sofia University, Palo Alto, with a Doctorate in Psychology, Transpersonal Orientation. She also holds a masters degree in Clinical Psychology, Feminist Track, and a master’s degree in Immunology from the Rackham School of Graduate Studies at the University of Michigan.
In addition to teaching, Goolrukh Vakil is a practicing Marriage and Family Therapist with licenses in both California and Oregon. She practices psychotherapy with private as well as Medi-Care and Medi-Cal clients.

Goolrukh Vakil was born in Mumbai, India and has lived in California for most of her adult life. She has owned a small Indian restaurant at one time, and a retail store. Her interests include walking and hiking (nee jogging, competitive field sports and biking), reading English literature and poetry, Philosophy, and History, going to the Opera, many genre of music, gardening, and caring for her old cat.
