Teddy Lance (she/they) received her BA in English from the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) and earned her PhD from the University of Southern California in August, 2024. Their doctoral dissertation tells a cultural history of liberal whiteness through the study of American Shakespeare performances in the late 19th and early 20th century and their intersection with ideas of “civilization,” “progress,” and a racialized “savagery.” Her other research interests include global Shakespeare adaptations, African American literature and performance, settler colonialism, queer and trans poetics, and prison education. In their free time, they enjoy writing poetry.
